The Weiss Gallery is pleased to announce the 2012 summer exhibition Living Rooms. This fresh group exhibit will showcase pieces that speak to the esthetic and energy of Calgary’s summer months while highlighting the unique home interior feeling that The Weiss Gallery space features. To accentuate this interior theme locally sourced furniture will be incorporated into The Weiss Gallery’s space playfully breaking the traditional art gallery presentation and embracing the beauty and pleasure of experiencing art in the home. On display from June 22 – August 25 this show will also be the backdrop for Calgary Stampede festivities at the gallery.

Located in Calgary’s developing Art and Design District, an area that occupies eleventh avenue southwest from fourth to eighth street, The Weiss Gallery is a former interior design firm. The original function of 1021 sixth street southwest shines through this converted gallery space and provides an intimate viewing experience with interesting vantage points.  The charm and personality of the gallery’s untypical floor plan is a characteristic that many find helpful in imagining how the art shown may be incorporated into their own living and working spaces. It is also a feature that gallery director Christine Klassen wants to draw a particular attention to in this show “…the pieces in this show have been selected with the way they fit the home interior in mind… Finding the right piece of art is very personal. It is a pleasure helping people find art they love and want to live with”.

Featuring more saturated and lively work by Colin Smith, Susan Collett, Michael Levin, Michael Schreiner, Ronald Boaks, Janine Hall, Alexandre Masino and Madeleine Lamont the art in Living Rooms offers a refreshing and invigorating viewing experience. The dynamic display of art and furniture in this show is scheduled to rotate and change throughout the summer months giving gallery-goers the pleasant opportunity of watching Living Rooms come alive.
