Congratulations Brad Woodfin! |
|
The Weiss Gallery is pleased to announce that Brad Woodfin has been featured in Beautiful/Decay's online publication. The daily website is part of a trifecta (also consisting of a book series and a T-shirt line) that is intended to "inspire and rally artists & designers" to connect with each other, and the community. Beautiful/Decay's creatively cheeky yet humble vibe is in tune with Woodfin's emotive, refined, and somewhat cavalier goat paintings. You can take a look at Woodfin's work and Beautiful/Decay's site by clicking here.

The Weiss Gallery Welcomes Greg Edmonson! |
The Weiss Gallery is delighted to welcome Greg Edmonson our gallery. Edmonson was born and raised in Calgary and received his Masters of Fine Art from the University of Alberta in 1985. Upon receiving his degree, he traveled to Europe and lived in Italy where he studied the masters of the Renaissance. The talented artist has been painting for 20 years and has shown his work across Canada, the US and internationally in both commercial and public galleries. His earlier work included portrait paintings, and his Soviet Pangaea series depicted the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin wall. He moved into landscapes in the latter 1990s, where he took interest in the now infamous tar pits of Alberta, that lead to his archeological interpretation of the canvas, "somewhere amongst the dark matter of tar have been found the remnants of life forms, which act as a kind of physical symbol of how time displaces history and memory". In turn, he aptly named these paintings "fractured landscapes", inspired by geology and the history of the earth, fused with his own memory and imagination. The result resembles an archeological site, rendering the prairie landscape in layers of textural paint, and heavy varnish.
His work is highly recognizable throughout Calgary as a number of our city's public spaces hold a collection of his paintings. Collections include The Toronto Dominion Bank, Canada Council Art Bank, Alberta Art Gallery, The Glenbow Museum, University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, The Nickle Arts Museum, and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
We are thrilled to welcome Greg Edmonson as a new addition to our gallery, and wish him a warm welcome! Please pop by the gallery and view the three new paintings we currently have at the gallery. Click here to view images of these artworks.
